The Mansion

A story by cousin Kayla

This story was the Henry County ( Georgia ) 8th Grade Short Story Champion this past year. It is displayed here now as Bobby would have been very proud of his cousin Kayla.

Everyone avoided the big old mansion. It was believed to have three ghosts living inside. They say the ghosts are sisters name Annabelle, Victoria and Sara. Supposedly, they all died a horrible death. They were accused of witchcraft and hung in the town square with a crowd watching. Everybody says the sisters want revenge so nobody goes into that big old manion.

My house is on the corner of Citrus Street. That is just one block away from the mansion. If was only three days until Halloween and I was really excited. My best friend Natalie and I were trick-or-treating together. We were also planning to go to a sleep-over before Halloween. That night, however, was when I did the stupidest think you could possible imagine.

"Okay, Madision, truth or dare?" We were at Kendall's house for the sleep over. "uhhhhhh....dare!" Everyone in the room gasped. That was the first dare of the night. Right after I said it, I felt stupid about my answer.

"Okay,","Kendall said. "I dare you to go into the old mansion for one hour." Once again, everyone in the room gasped. That was the ultimate dare.

So that was that. Tonight, I would have to go into the mansion for one hour...by myself.

I felt chills going up my back as I walked up to the door of the big, old mansion. I carefully opened the door and stepped inside. I slowly walked about, examining the walls, and most of the staircase. I decided to go upstairs.

One door caught my eye. It was to the left of the top of the staircase. I thought "What the heck? I am already here" Cautiously, I walked up to it and opened the door, and what I saw I will remember forever.

There sitting in three rocking chairs, were the ghost sisters. I just stood there feeling like my feet were nailed to the ground. I wanted to scream and run away but I didn't. Something made me stay.

The sisters stared at me with a blank look. Then they got up and slowly walked over to me."Who are you?" said one of the sisters. I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. "I asked you a question.", she said in a louder, angier voice.

""My name is Madison Tibull," I responded quietly.

She looked at the other sisters. "I am Victoria, and this is Sarah and Annabelle, my sisters,"

"It's nice to meet you." I said.

"Why are you in our home?," asked Sarah.

"I was dared to come in here for one hour." I replied.

"I have one question." Annabelle said. "In your own opinion, do you think you taste good dipped in steak sauce?"

Then all of a sudden Sarah and Annabelle lunged towards me. I managed to dodge to the side enough so that they barely missed me. I ran out of the house and down the stairs. I could feel them a hair behind me. I had almost reached the door when I heard a big thump behind me.

I turned around and saw the sisters all lying on the ground. "They must have tripped," I thought. I continued to race out to the door to the sidewalk. I looked back. Now I know why everyone avoided the big old mansion.
